The 2010 NGO Global Forum for Women: Beijing +15

Preceding the 54th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, on February 27th and 28th 2010 The Salvation Army Greater New York Headquarters will host the 2010 NGO Global Forum for Women: Beijing +15, organized by the NGO Committee on the Status of Women.

The NGO CSW is a Committee of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations which advocates for the adoption of programs and policies that will advance the economic, political, legal, health and educational status of women worldwide and promotes women’s rights and gender equality-cornerstones of the United Nations Charter.

The main aim of this Forum, entitled “Through Her Eyes: Renewing Commitment to Equality, Peace and Development”, is to consider implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA).

The 54th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

On March 1st to 12th 2010, during its 54th session, the Commission on the Status of Women , a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women, will undertake a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly.

The event is being prepared by CSW together with all five United Nations Regional Commissions and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and will pursue the sharing, among United Nations Member States and representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities, of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. A series of parallel events will provide additional opportunities for information exchange and networking.
