High level Conference on Fostering Women's Participation in Economic life

AFAEMME presenting the "Young Women as Job Creators" project to regional key actors

AFAEMME has participated in the UfM High-level Conference on Fostering Women’s Participation in Economic Life which took place in Barcelona on May 19th to 21st.

Building on the outcomes of the first Conference on women empowerment held in 2014 and as renewed follow-up to the Third UfM Ministerial Conference on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society (Paris, 11 September 2013), the Conference brought together regional key actors to identify the opportunities and challenges ahead and formulate strategic recommendations to promote inclusive growth and gender equality as a crucial factor for political, social and economic development.

The Conference was also an opportunity to present and explain ongoing UfM labeled projects and other related success stories.

In fact, AFAEMME's project coordinator, Ms. Mally, participated as a speaker to spread the word about the Association's "Young Women as Job Creators" project. The project's first phase, which aimed at motivating young women university students for entrepreneurship, has been successfully implemented in 2013-2014 in Jordan, Morocco, Palestine and Spain. With the financial aid of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Principality of Monaco, AFAEMME is currently implementing the project's second phase, aimed at creating more women-owned start ups in Albania, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.

One of the young beneficiaries of the project's first phase, Ms. Soukeina El Bouj from Morocco, also participated in the Conference by explaining her experience as university student who participated in the project's Women Entrepreneurship Days and the support in business planning.

The main conclusions of the Conference will be uploaded here as soon as available.
