2013 EUROMED SUMMIT of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions

AFAEMME's President participates as civil society representative in the session on "the economic and social situation of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region"

The 2013 Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions was co-organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean and co-financed by the European Commission.

The Summit, which took place on November 11th and 12th in Barcelona (Spain) focussed on key challenges affecting the countries of the region, especially those that are currently in a process of political, economic and social transition, and the role that civil society can play in meeting those challenges. Therefore, this year special emphasis was given to:

  • Macroeconomic policy and the employment challenge in the north and south of the Mediterranean region,
  • The economic and social situation of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region,
  • Mobility and migration: challenges and opportunities,
  • Water: a scarce resource in the Mediterranean region.

Ms. de Felipe, AFAEMME's President, participated as a speaker in the session on the economic and social situation of women in the Euro-Mediterranean region, together with Ms. Delphine Borione, UfM Deputy Secretary-General for Social and Civil Affairs, Ms. Jamal Hermes Ghibril, President of the Lebanese Council of Women, Ms. Grace Attard, Member of the EESC, and other high level representatives.
