Women in Turkey

The first of a series of posts about women in Turkey.

By taking the occasion of having a Turkish trainee, AFAEMME is going to offer some insights about the situation of women in Turkey by publishing a series of news items about this topic. This is the first post of this series. We hope you enjoy it!

Always look twice at what you see

As you look at the picture first, you will see a traditional, middle-aged woman from Anatolian part of Turkey. However, as you start to know Ümmiye Koçak, you will know that even though she could not complete her education, she is a successful director, scriptwriter and an actress. Even under difficult conditions, she has achieved to interest in art, especially in theater and cinema. On this month, she won the Best Eurasian Woman Artist presented by New York Eurasian Film Festival with her first film “Yün Bebek (Wool Doll)”. She shows that actually there is no “impossibility”, as dreams are pursued with passion.
